'New Horizons' (2024)
 
New Horizons is a celebratory concert piece, commissioned by Red Admiral Music Academy to celebrate their 10th Birthday in 2024.
 
The work encompasses the Academy’s mantra: ‘making music fun’…’making music together’. An opening fanfare heralds an air of ‘celebration’, signifying the birth of Red Admiral Music Academy. This is followed by a moment of reflection with the lyrical main theme heard on the solo cornet. As the solo cornet soars in tandem with the accompanying luscious harmonies, a sense of optimism permeates the music and evokes that the journey ahead is going to be something quite special. And so, the journey begins...
 
With a shift in tempo, the theme moves around the band and through a series of modulations, just as the baton has been passed on by so many players over the past 10 years. The music takes a momentary breather, reflecting on what has been achieved in such a short time, before setting off at pace...Allegro vivace.
 
The music brims with excitement and anticipation, retaining the character of the opening theme heard on solo lines and collectively in sections. The finale brings the music to a climactic close, drawing from every section of the band in a common voice; a passage of excitement and celebration for the next chapter: New Horizons.
