'Coming Home' (2021)
 
'Coming Home' was written during the COVID-19 pandemic for Elland Silver Band's principal cornet player, Lewis Barton. With an emotive folk-like melody and a hymn-like setting that blends both traditional and modern harmonies, the music and its title evoke feelings of warm nostalgia, remembrance and reuniting with loved ones.
 
Performance Note:
 
A long, sustained top D in the melody is called for at the piece's conclusion. Alternative endings are included in the score's performance notes to cater to soloist's range and stamina.
